Chapter 640

She had to have him.

He was hers. He was supposed to marry her. They were the ones who belonged together.

But now, with that little brat nestled in his arms...

Luna's eyes settled on Charlie's sleeping face, a flash of cold malice passing quickly through her gaze. With this child here, Charles would be hers-no question.

Charles's voice was gentle as he soothed his daughter, the low hum of his words flowing across the quiet room. He started to hum a soft, familiar lullaby-the one he'd learned from watching endless videos of Charlie growing up, the same song Eve always sang to help their daughter drift off to sleep.

At first, he was tentative. But slowly, as the melody wrapped around them, something like magic happened the tension bled from the little girl's body, her breathing slowed and deepened, and she relaxed completely in his arms.

The sudden change flickered as shock in Luna's eyes, but she smoothed her expression before anyone could notice.

Charles kept humming, his voice a gentle anchor while his eyes swept the room, sharp and watchful.

He was waiting.

The moment he'd stepped inside, he'd triggered his micro earpiece, relaying orders to Q-his man on the inside: sweep the house, check every corner, make sure nothing threatened Charlie.

Luna was, after all, a Cipoletti. Cunning, careful-never one to leave herself unprotected.

He couldn't take any chances. He wouldn't let anything threaten Charlie's safety. He couldn't bear it-Eve certainly couldn't survive losing their daughter again.

Time slipped by, measured in the soft rise and fall of the lullaby.

At last, the earpiece buzzed: Q's voice, calm and precise. "Mr. Jenkins, the house

is clear. The way's safe. You can take Miss Charlie out anytime."

Charles's throat bobbed as he whispered back, almost soundless, "Okay."

Even that tiny sound made Luna tense.

She looked up, feigning confusion, lips parted just enough. "Mr. Jenkins, what are you-"

She never finished.

Charles moved.

He didn't loosen his hold on Charlie, making sure she stayed safe and still, but his body snapped into motion-a coiled predator finally springing. His right leg shot out, fast and hard, straight for Luna's chest.

Luna's instincts kicked in, survival honed by a lifetime in a dangerous family. She tried to twist away, but Charles was faster. He'd read her every move.

His kick, cold with anger and fierce with the need to protect, landed dead center on her heart.

A muffled cry tore from Luna's lips as she crashed back, slammed against the wall, and slid to the floor, stunned and crumpled.

Pain radiated through her, draining the color from her face, leaving her trembling with shock and rage. She clutched her chest, eyes wild as she hissed through her teeth, "Charles! What the hell are you doing?!"

Charles didn't even look at her.

All his warmth, all his patience, belonged to the little girl in his arms.

Nothing else mattered but getting her out-now.

He stood, holding Charlie close, eyes locked on the door. "Q!"

His voice was cool and sharp.

"Yes, Mr. Jenkins!"

Q was already outside, stepping in to block the doorway with his broad shoulders. His face was stone, his movements quick and sure as he closed in on Luna, still sprawled and dazed.

She tried to fight back, but Charles's kick had drained her strength.

Q didn't hesitate. He pinned her easily, locking her arms. As she tried to cry out,

his hand lashed out-a clean, brutal chop to the back of her neck.

Luna's body went limp, her eyes frozen with hate as she dropped into unconsciousness.

"Take her away," Charles said, not even glancing at her.

"Understood."

Q hefted Luna like she weighed nothing and dragged her from the room.

Silence fell again, broken only by the soft glow of the lamp and the steady, even breaths of his daughter. ! Read

Charles glanced down at Charlie's peaceful face. The ice in his eyes melted, just

a bit, and relief spread through him-a fragile, hard-won warmth.

He hugged Charlie tighter, careful
