The Day Our Promise Breaks -
Chapter 413
Chapter 413
"Dahlia isn't Debbie, you've got the wrong person!"
As Josephine spoke, a nurse nearby lost her balance and accidentally knocked over a bedside lamp. The lamp crashed to the
ground with a loud thud, completely drowning out Josephine's already weak voice. The nurse apologized over and over, quickly
crouching down to pick it up. This little mishap went unnoticed by everyone around.
Standing at the door, Charles missed what Josephine said. He was about to ask when Dahlia, anxious that Josephine might spill
more secrets, quickly distracted him. She clutched Charles' hand tightly. "Charles, Ms. Josephine's surgery went well. She can
wait, but Sandy can't."
"Sandy's in real danger right now. Whatever you need to discuss, it can wait. Please, go check on Sandy, alright?"
Tears streamed down Dahlia's face as she pleaded, desperate to get Charles away. If she could just lead him out, she could use
Sandy as an excuse and then figure out her next move.
Charles knew she was right. Priorities were important. His aunt's surgery was successful, and she was no longer in immediate
danger. There would be plenty of time to hear her out later, but Sandy's situation was uncertain.
"Auntie, please rest and recover. We'll talk more once you're feeling better." With that, Charles quickly left with Dahlia.
Josephine wanted to call Charles back, but he was already too far gone. She was fuming, her face flushed with anger. Dahlia
had clearly done this on purpose.
In the hospital room, Evelyn and Adam stood by the bed, having heard Josephine's words. When Adam met Evelyn, she had
already lost her memory and didn't know about Evelyn and Charles' childhood connection. Josephine's words left Adam puzzled,
but Evelyn caught the important detail.
Her mind raced. Her mother had just said Dahlia wasn't Debbie, and Charles had mistaken her for someone else. Her nickname
was Debbie. The realization hit her like a wave. Her emotions swirled a mix of everything.
This meant Charles was the little boy her mother had rescued. He was her
Iceman. She remembered how she had once hoped to meet him again after hearing her mother talk about her past with Iceman.
But she never expected that person to be Charles.
Knowing Charles was Iceman,
Evelyn didn't dwell too much on their childhood bond. That part of her memory was missing. Even though it sounded wonderful
when he mother spoke of it, now, hero relationship with Charles couldn't be mended by those childhood ties.
What lay between them was
Charlie's life-an insurmountable divide. Her focus was solely on avenging Charlie.
If Charles' true first love was her, then Dahlia was a fake all along. Without the aura of being Charles' first love, Dahlia would lose
her leverage, and maybe Charles wouldn't protect her anymore. Could she finally get justice for Charlie?
Evelyn grabbed Josephine's hand, her excitement barely contained. "Mom, are you sure?"
"Absolutely!" Josephine squeezed Evelyn's hand, her breath shaky as she spoke slowly, "The jade pendant Charles wears is
yours. I couldn't possibly mistake it."
"And the pendant Charles gave you, which you lost-I found it yesterday morning. Dahlia admitted it was hers."
Evelyn remembered her mother's reaction when she first saw the jade pendant on Charles. Her mom wouldn't lie. So it was all
true. She really was Charles' first love.
"Mom, do you have proof?" Evelyn
held back her excitement. The past
had taught her that dealing with
Charles without solid evidence could
easily lead to confusion. Charles
might not believe her, and Dahlia
could talk her way out. Going to Charles with evidence would be best, leaving Dahlia with no room to argue.
"Yes!"
