Reincarnated as an Energy with a System -
Chapter 1827: Extra-Ability Analyzer
Nothing of note happened in the few days before Ning had to go register his powers. On the day it was to happen, he took public transportation to the building where the Department of Powers and Abilities, DPA, was located.
He quickly filled out some forms and waited in a line that mostly had parents who had come with their children to get them tested. He saw a young girl with cat ears sitting next to a tabaxi male who had to be her parent. Given her lack of fur, she had to have a human mother.
On the other end was a pale child that seemed quite slow. Ning mistook him for a ghoul at first but then realized he had to be a zombie.
Children of all ages and races surrounded him, with the oldest one being no older than 18 years old.
Every citizen was required to have their citizenship card by the age of 18, and one of the requirements in that was to get their powers tested.
Being alone here, Ning stood out quite a bit.
Ning had his own card for Valen Jassens, where under powers and abilities it wrote ’No Non-Racial Abilities’. Since his race was a Daywalker, a half-vampire half-human, he was half as fast and strong as a vampire but could also walk during the day. Unlike vampires, he didn’t need blood to sustain himself either.
Aside from that, he was supposed to have no powers, but since he had one now, he needed to register it.
A few of the parents greeted him, asking him for the reason he was there. Ning answered clearly, explaining that he had recently awakened his powers and thus had come to register.
Those parents were surprised that someone who looked to be in his 30s had developed a new power. But then, weirder things had happened.
The children began entering a room one after another as they were called, and while most returned without much emotion, there were some that were clearly disappointed to not have powers.
This was just a mandatory test, so even when one didn’t have a power, they had to go through it. But this also meant that any chance there was that they had a power they didn’t know about was now no longer there.
The mystery was uncovered, and so they could only be disappointed.
Ning looked toward the door, his eyes seeing past it to look inside. The cat-eared girl from before stood at the center of a large gymnasium with many disc-shaped objects hung above her, doing something to her.
Ning had read about these things, the machines that detected powers.
The girl remained standing with her eyes closed, doing nothing. As Ning watched, the machine came to life, the many discs suddenly lighting up in various colors, all shining down toward the girl.
A moment later, something emerged from the girl’s back that quickly transformed into the girl herself, except in spirit form. Ning wondered if that was her power, but then the spirit form of the girl suddenly opened her eyes, blue light shining through them.
In the next moment, images of snowflakes appeared all around her, drifting like fallen snow.
The people in charge of the machines talked to themselves, as if what they were seeing was normal. A woman began pressing some things that had appeared on the screen, and soon numerous things began appearing around the young girl’s spirit form.
A butterfly appeared first, which the girl froze almost instantly. Then there were more butterflies, which she continued to freeze. Other things appeared—different animals, water, and other materials—for her to freeze in different shapes, sizes, and quantities.
Ning quickly realized that the girl’s power was to freeze things, and these people were testing her to see how far she could go with it.
’Interesting,’ he thought. ’So they can test you without you having to do anything at all.’
The multi-disc machine above her was doing everything, which made Ning grow even more curious. “What is that machine? Who created it?”
<It is called the Extra-Ability Analyzer, developed by a scientist named Decron Shoults, now long dead>
“Oh,” Ning said with a soft sigh. “How does it work exactly? How can it know what powers they have?”
<It uses a crystal called Aullazire, which contains magical properties>
“Aullazire! I’ve heard of it,” Ning said. “They’re supposed to be incredibly rare. They use those in this?”
<Decron Shoults found a way to use Aullazire to figure out what someone’s power is. Once discovered, he created a meticulous visualizer that could display those powers and make those powers interact with other objects whose information is pre-stored in the database. It’s continuously updated and is now available in almost every major city around the world.>
“I see,” Ning said. “Tritus have a hand in this?”
<No. Tritus has no hand in this.>
Ning narrowed his eyes. He still wanted to find a way to catch the bastard somehow, but as of yet, there was no hope. He needed to know who or where he was first before he did anything.
’He’ll make his name known. He won’t be able to help it.’
The girl’s testing had completed, and she was told her results in a few different categories. Her ice powers were graded at Rank 4 potential out of a total of 10 ranks. Her freezing power didn’t have enough range or speed to do much more.
Unless she found a clever way to use her powers, it was unlikely she was ever going to become a hero. The girl walked out with her parents with a genuine smile on her face.
It appeared she was plenty happy with Rank 4.
Ning’s name was called out, and he stood up from his seat, many eyes falling on him given his rare situation. He smiled as he made his way through the doors and arrived inside. He was quickly told what to do, so Ning headed toward the center to stand below the array of shiny metal discs, ready to have his powers tested.
