Reincarnated as an Energy with a System
Chapter 1822: Interrogation

Waveshot’s lawyer was a middle-aged woman with long brown hair. She quickly went into the interrogation room, asking for privacy. She remained in there for nearly 15 minutes before Ning and Larissa entered.

“I have advised my client to not answer any of your questions at the present,” the lawyer said.

“That’s your prerogative,” Larissa said as she sat down. “And mine is to ask your client some questions, which he may or may not choose to answer. So, to keep things simple, I’ll start with this.”

She turned toward Waveshot. “Was it you that attacked Grimhide Chak, the ghoul in his apartment building on the northwestern side of the city, around 3:30 in the morning?”

Waveshot remained silent.

Larissa waited for a bit, and when she did not get any answer, she shrugged and moved on.

“Why did you attack me and my fellow detective when we were outside of your apartment, sir Waveshot?” she asked.

Once again, the man remained silent.

“My client will not answer anything. If you have proof, bring it to the court. If not, I will ask you to stop harassing my client.”

“Your client fights off criminals daily, I’m sure he can handle some questions,” Larissa said. “Where were you between the hours of 10 and 11 this morning, sir Waveshot?”

The man did not answer.

Larissa began to grow a little frustrated as well. She turned toward Ning, who had more information than her, and gestured for him to take over.

Ning stood and walked over to the glass window where Mira, Jack, and a few other officers would be watching them. Maybe even the chief.

“Mira, can you come in here? We’ll be needing your help a bit. Bring your items too,” he said.

A minute later, there was a knock on the door and Ning opened it. The wood elf looked a little puzzled walking in as she had never really had the chance to be part of something like this.

She walked in and Ning gave her his seat while he remained standing. He then gestured for her to begin working.

Mira opened her tablet, waiting for further command.

“Can you bring up the information on Trunno Gallow?” he asked.

Mira nodded. It took her no time to find that information. “Here.”

Ning took the tablet. “So let me read verbatim what is written here in my tablet.”

“I’m sorry, what is this?” the lawyer asked. “Who is this person?”

“Ah, are you not aware of the mob syndicate called the Gallows that existed in the past?” Ning asked. “They were quite big, but that was 20 years ago. They were taken down since then.”

“I… have heard of it,” the woman said. “But I don’t see the relevance with the situation.”

Ning smiled. “You will soon.” He looked at the list before him and began reading off.

“10 counts of assault. 12 counts of kidnapping. 8 counts of assisted arson. 19 counts of grand larceny. 24 counts of money laundering. 1 count of racketeering. 8 counts of drug possession, drug distribution, and drug manufacturing. 4 counts of rape. 18 counts of sexual assault, 4 of which were minors under the age of 18. 224 counts of manslaughter charges. 28 counts of second-degree murder. And 47 counts of homicide. Add to that countless other minor charges.”

Ning handed the tablet back to Mira.

“That was Trunno Gallow,” Ning said. “That… was the man you tried to get revenge for.”

The lawyer’s eyes narrowed. “What nonsense is this?”

“It is no nonsense. That right there is the son of the late Trunno Gallow, godfather of the Gallows. And he is his son.”

The lawyer tried to say something, but Ning ignored her.

“Is this the man you want to go to prison for?” Ning asked. “You’ve moved yourself away from his shadow and are doing good, so why do you want to move back into the same path as your father did? Do you not realize that your father was a bad man?”

“This is absolutely nothing more than a lie,” the lawyer said. “Do not seek to elicit a reaction from my client with these lies.”

“They are no lies.”

“Ning,” Mira called out before moving close to him to whisper something.

“I know, Trunno Gallow was a centaur,” he said. “So you wonder why he is a human. I would usually think that his wife was a human and they just happened to give birth to a human, but it is not that simple, is it?”

“What do you mean?” Larissa asked.

“His father was a centaur, yes. But his mother… his mother was a minotaur.”

“A minotaur?” Mira asked.

“What?” Larissa shouted in surprise.

“Yes,” Ning said. “He’s not a human. He’s half-centaur, half-minotaur. The bottom half of a minotaur and the top half of a centaur. I’m sure there are patches of fur around his body, especially his chest if you were to strip him down, but we can’t do that, can we?”

“Really?” Mira asked.

“You can check that information,” Ning said. “I noticed something about a lioness-headed minotaur when I was looking through. She was close enough to Trunno Gallow, so she must’ve been one of his women. He was born from them.”

Mira quickly searched through the information and did find one.

“That’s right! There is.”

“Why did you do it, Waveshot?” Ning asked. “You had moved past your previous life. Why did you drag yourself back into it? Why did you attack old man Muddy? When did you realize that he had sold your father in exchange for his own immunity?”

Waveshot’s head shot up, his eyes widened.

Ning frowned. “You didn’t… until now.” He saw the man’s surprised look. “But if you didn’t know, then… why did you try to kill him?”

Ning frowned. Did it not have to do with the man’s father?

His eyes narrowed and he quickly pulled away Mira’s tablet, quickly searching for something. And then, he found it.

“I see,” Ning said. “You weren’t taking revenge for your father. It was for your mother that died in the raid.”
