Genetic Ascension
Chapter 2152: Great Timing [Bonus]

[Bonus chapter thanks to BobTheEngineer <3]

Sylas' body flashed over and he found Gogo struggling. Several of the latter's scales had been shredded apart, but rather than it being because the Duchess was actively moving against him, it was instead because she was lashing out in her unconscious state.

When Sylas himself got close, he felt strong pulsing surges coming from inside of his body as well, as though his blood would be pulled out through his pores and any vulnerable orifices any moment now.

'Is she awakening her True Blood again?'

Sylas frowned. It shouldn't have been that easy.

Last time, it was only possible because of an interaction with the Lust Seed and his own impurities. If just absorbing powerful blood was all it took, then given how powerful the Sanguara were, they would have pushed that issue a long time ago.

The only explanation Sylas could think of was that it was some combination of his presence and what had already been done in the future. And what that was certainly had ties to the fact they were in a marriage contract.

Sylas' marriage to the Duchess was tied to her blood and it was directly linked to her True Blood. It was possible that the combination of his appearance here and the catalyst of powerful blood was causing it to awaken far ahead of the time it should have.

But this was a problem. This clearly broke the laws of causality.

Because if Sylas was awakening her bloodline here, then he couldn't also do it in the future. Two things couldn't be true at the same time. Unless… 'It was suppressed.'

Sylas had seen it earlier. The one chosen to enter the Split Realm on behalf of the Sanguara wasn't the Duchess, it was her brother. He actually remembered her explicitly saying that her brother was a far greater talent than she was.

If there was anyone in their family most likely to awaken their True Blood, it was him.

However, Sylas had fought both the Prince and the Duchess' father. Neither of the two had awakened their True Blood.

Could it really be that the Sanguara had no one capable of doing that?

Or was it the case that they already had, and when they were trapped on the Golden Battlefield, whatever benefits this True Blood had on them was stripped away?

'I see…'

Sylas' gaze flickered back to the tree.

If he recalled correctly, the legend of the Monkey King was closely tied to a tree. There were many variations of the story, but essentially there was a vessel that absorbed large amounts of blood from Gods and eventually formed an understanding of it that ultimately resulted in the birth of the Monkey King from a stone.

Sylas had already noticed that there were odd tidbits of information from Earthen myths that seemed to have some relation with reality. The fact the Monkey King existed at all should have been a much bigger shock to him in the first place.

But now he was very curious about just how far that went.

A tree capable of absorbing the blood of Gods to create such a powerful existence?

What better way to get the blood of many Gods than through war? And wasn't quite a large one happening right now? One where every party seemed intent on sending their very best so that they could gain an advantage on all their enemies?

Yet, despite the fact this Split Realm didn't seem to have a true cap to it, or even a true description, they only sent weaker members as though they knew the danger of sending the more powerful.

Now that… was an interesting choice.

But he also had a feeling that he had an idea of what this Split Realm was about.

He wasn't here to fight the Monkey King.

He was here to either force or stop his birth.

The question was, which one was the right choice?

Of course, the actual decision wouldn't change what already happened. A Split Realm was an echo of history, not a true trip to the past, that was why several people could complete it at the same time.

For now… Sylas wasn't sure of the answer to that question.

All he could do right now was one thing.

He pressed a palm to the Duchess' forehead and her bloodline bucked back against him. But there was a reason that Sylas had accidentally married the Duchess in the first place. His original intention was to have a method of subduing and controlling her bloodline so that she wouldn't betray him.

He just hadn't been aware that this was also the process of marrying a woman in the Demon World.

However, right about then, that exact mechanism came in extremely handy.

He didn't suppress the bloodline entirely, it needed room to maneuver if it was both going to evolve and help the Duchess to heal. The moment he took action, the wounds accumulating along his own and Gogo's body stopped.

"Thank you for helping." Sylas said calmly.

Gogo snorted.

The big one was still very much angry with him. However, he seemed to see some light at the end of the tunnel because of the Duchess, so he was slowly starting to tolerate Sylas a bit more.

The Gogo of now no longer looked like that naive little baby snake, though by the count of years, he very much still was.

He hardly looked like a snake right now at all. The way he wrapped around the thick branches of this endless canopy, he looked more like a dragon of legend.

But until now… Sylas hadn't come across that myth of Earth, at least.

Or maybe, he had had one in his Hibernation Realm all this time.

Sylas never brought Gogo out these days. Half of that was because his partner was angry with him after what happened with Nosphaleen, but the other half was because Gogo was too special, even more special than the little serpent hanging from Sylas' ear right this moment.

But Sylas had a feeling that if he wanted to get out of here and come out on top with his and the Duchess' life intact, he was going to have to let Gogo rampage.

The Duchess' eyes snapped open.

The timing couldn't have been better, especially when there was murder flickering in them while the wild chirping of monkeys was coming from the horizon.
