Genetic Ascension -
Chapter 2145: Choose [Bonus]
[Bonus thsnks to Rikstingray <3 There would have been one chapter today otherwise]
Sylas wasn't surprised by this question.
At this point, he was pretty sure that he had fallen through time. The irony that he had somehow managed to do the exact sort of thing he was trying to, but at the exact wrong time.
However, it was also clear that this wasn't exactly his choice either. Maybe this would have happened no matter what.
The difference was that the battlefield was designed to send his Will back, not his actual body. But because he had cleared it too perfectly, his entire being was sent back and now he was quite separated from everyone else.
The good news, of course, was that he was in the past, not the future. So there was no need to panic about getting back as quickly as possible or worrying about his family.
So long as he planned correctly, he would return at the appropriate time.
What he did have to worry about were paradoxes and things of the like.
This was exactly why he wasn't a more active participant in what was going on. Why else would he, Sylas Grimblade, allow a random man to pick him up and ride on his back? That was something he would normally never allow, but for the sake of the situation, he was forced to.
He hadn't yet figured out how to account for every variable in the universe just yet, so he was very much subject to being eradicated by a potential paradox at any moment.
If he took a single wrong step, he would never return home and his family would be on their own without his protection.
He could never allow that.
But that also meant that he would have to do whatever the Golden Race had planned here, not only so that these powerful existences didn't wipe him out with a snort, but also so that he could close the loop and return home.
While Sylas couldn't figure out the gritty details of how to return to the past, what he had known from the very beginning was probably that it required a closed loop.
That meant that he would have to fulfill the role of something that had already happened here.
Whatever that was, he would also have to do it within a time limit or be subject to falling outside of the loop, where he would eventually be destroyed as a paradox.
This was his own layman's understanding, but it was probably at least 70% to 80% accurate.
Sylas raised a palm and Ros' eyes narrowed. But then he pressed it against his own chest and made a move like he was removing something.
Then, a beautiful arching Gene took shape.
Ros' pupils constricted, as did many of the spectators.
That Gene… it was a perfect reflection of the secrets of the Golden Battlefield.
Sylas had already figured out that the Golden Battlefield existed to allow the Golden Race an attempt to fuse Demon and Real. But further than that, it was to allow them an attempt to move forward, and then to backtrack and erase their mistakes before continuing forward again.
That was the application of time the Golden Battlefield used. Erase mistakes, rebuild your foundation.
But implicit in that battlefield were the secrets of the progress the Golden Race had already made, and for Sylas who had understood every battlefield until now, replicating the D-tier version of this was as easy as breathing.
He hadn't even had the Gene before, he just made it within his body and then pulled it out as though it had always been there.
Ros' eyes widened further as Sylas dismissed the Gene as though it didn't mean much to him.
"I see…" she nodded. "It seems that I have underestimated you. Who do you descend from?"
Sylas assumed she was asking which of the Golden Races. The only two he knew of were the Unitaur and the Aurans. This Supreme Commander Ros seemed to be of the Aurans, while Zaun was obviously of the Unitaur.
"Such differentiations no longer exist." Sylas said calmly.
He could have picked any one he wanted, but there was no need.
"I see." She nodded once more. "Do you know what you have been brought here to do?"
"I do not."
"Mm." Her eyes narrowed. That was peculiar.
But when she saw Sylas made no attempt to explain himself, she nodded again.
"What is the current situation in the future?"
"Trash." Sylas said coldly. "The Race has fallen to the C-tier, there are no adequate leaders, and I have only climbed to this point because my talent for Rune Mastery is strong. I had no aspects of the Golden Race at all until I cleared the first Golden Battlefield."
Ros stumbled back as though she had been hit with a meteor. Though, in action, given her strength, maybe even a meteor wouldn't be able to cause such a thing.
She seemed truly distraught by the truth.
Slowly, she composed herself, straightening out and then standing tall.
"In that case, we have found some luck in you. The situation is as follows," she said calmly, "the Madness System is falling and there is not much time before it crumbles beyond all reason. Our Royal Line will fall with it and our bloodline into disrepair.
"If what you've said about the future is true, then it is already too late to fix this. We would not commit our descendant to falling to a paradox. But if you have succeeded where we have failed, it means that you are the only one that can clear the Split Realm in its current form."
Supreme Commander Ros met Sylas' gaze with an undisguised earnestness.
"The fact that you have somehow managed to fulfill our requirements at the D-tier gives you an even better chance. No one will have a better chance than yourself to revive our Race to its former glory.
"This battle… it is lost. But you may secure us the war should you choose to do so."
