Divine Emperor of Death -
Chapter 4440: Remaining Wary
The Abyssal Netherbane Centipede was a part of the Six Grand Nightmare Poison Insects. Its vengeful true soul essence was required for the Hell Poison Gem’s forged treasure to activate. Fortunately, they told her that they already had it, so there was no need to go out of her way to hunt it.
Moreover, what was needed was the vengeful true soul essence of a King-Tier Abyssal Netherbane Centipede.
Still, Nadia didn’t think that was a problem since all she had to do was capture one and send them back to Everlight, who would do the trick to make them King-Tier. She wasn’t sure about the vengeful part, but she imagined Davis could do something about it.
"No, that’s a Bone-Searing Mountain Centipede. Its poison is said to be immensely painful..."
Azbel answered as he shuddered, holding his head as his fingers ruffled his black hair mixed with purple and green hue, "They could also be considered to be in the rank of Grand Saint Magical Beasts. It was a good thing we avoided them."
He looked devilishly handsome and a bit feminine, but as an Empyrean Beast, he retained some of his magical beast traits even in his human form, the black scales over the back of his palms and even further near the shoulder and back. However, the most attractive part of his body was his forehead, where there was a purple orb contained within the strange diamond symbol, which marked his being as a King-Tier Beast.
The others were wondering why he was acting scared, considering that he was a King-Tier Nether Orb Cobra.
"Bloodline suppression?" Nyoran asked.
"Not really. Probably the painful sensation left behind in the inherited memories from one of my ancestors. I could feel it, so it must be the sensation from one of my ancestors within three generations."
Azbel tried to control himself after he explained, taking a deep breath.
Nyoran nodded, thinking it made more sense.
She knew she also had some memories like this, although they were all from the Grand Beginnings Continent and wouldn’t amount to anything by now since she had grown so much, completely shedding her weak shackles.
Although Azbel also shed his shackles, the foes his ancestors faced were also big in their lives, so there was little escaping them.
If he wasn’t a King-Tier Beast, he would’ve screamed when he spotted those centipedes.
Nonetheless, she could also see that he was getting anxious the more they closed in on their destination.
She didn’t know how far they were away from their destination, but Azbel’s anxiety rising seemed to be a good indicator.
Time passed.
They set out the next morning- although there was no light from the sun to be seen since the world was covered in purplish-violet haze.
As they continued southwest, the land grew more alive.
The trees gave way to enormous stalks of spiraling fungus, each over a hundred meters tall, crowned with umbrella-like caps that emitted steady drizzles of bioluminescent nectar. The drops burned small holes in the soil, revealing writhing worms beneath the surface- blind, translucent, and always retreating before they were seen clearly.
The ground squelched now, soft and spongy, like walking atop the rotting carcass of some colossal creature long buried.
It nearly made them puke.
But they stomached the nausea and continued moving forward.
A lot of battles were fought, but they were always quick to move on, not staying at a place for more than a minute after engaging in battle. Most of the problem came from Nether Devourer Beasts that were asleep or eating the fauna like an herbivore.
But as soon as it came in contact with outsiders, it became crazy, starting to devour everything within its vicinity.
Naturally, they were strong enough to kill it, but they didn’t. Instead, they moved on while enduring the suction.
This would make the Nether Devourer Beast eventually docile. Otherwise, its death would call many other Nether Devourer Beasts over.
But soon enough, a pursuit caught up.
"Rraa! Hahrahahra! Found you!"
A boisterous laughter echoed across the lands as a thousand-meter tall giant black figure appeared in the sky about sixty kilometers away. He was as tall as the most common type of tree seen trees here. His figure was clad in loose robes that were practically no different than a glorified loincloth and skimpy clothes. His skin was nearly pitch-black with purple runes, and his wings were as vast as his height, almost double the size.
He appeared to have a nearly triangular face with an evil smile. His eyes were blood-red, and three horns adorned his head, all three jutting from the front of the head as it stretched back, truly resembling a devil from the myths.
"A Nether Devil..."
Nadia uttered, her deep purple-gold eyes narrowing.
It wasn’t her first time seeing one since they already had many battles with Nether Devils, and each time, they had to escape right after critically injuring it.
Why? Because the Nether Devils enjoyed the hunt, and killing one of them would be like attracting a den of wolves. If an Exalt Stage Nether Devil appears, they will not be able to survive. Hence, they played with it.
However, this particular Nether Devil never seemed to give up.
It was obvious it wanted to rip them apart with its razor-sharp teeth and let blood flow. However, it finally seemed that it could no longer hold back.
*Thud~*
Two more Nether Devils appeared behind it as they landed, their bat-like wings flapping to slow down their momentum before dropping to the ground.
Their wide smiles were truly eerie and looked sinister, leaving the Immortal Emperors like Nadia, Schleya, and Rokushi Mirai shuddering ever so lightly against their incredible pressure. Their undulations were at the Mid-Level Empyrean Stage, their exact base cultivation unknown since a Nether Devil’s cultivation was purely one of their body.
Unless they fully unleashed their power or displayed their aura violently, it was very difficult to calculate.
"Huhmens!" The Nether Devil at the forefront roared, "You have come to the end of the rope. There is no falling, so show your neck!"
It raised its head high and growled without even being able to speak the Sky Word Language correctly, causing Nadia to release a sigh of annoyance.
"Illumina, kill them all. They no longer need to be kept alive."
"...?" Illumina doubted the reasoning behind the order, but she didn’t go against it.
Her aura flared as an Emperor-Tier Nethermoon Mirage Rabbit. The rays of light barely seeping through the skies shined upon her, causing her to shine like a jewel. She took a step forward and disappeared, causing the Nether Devils to be alarmed.
*Bang!~*
At the very front, the Nether Devil’s response was extremely quick.
It summoned a giant primitive club out of nowhere and smashed against Illumina’s extremely fast frame. The two ends connected, and a shrill feeling ran across the Nether Devil’s arm, exciting it as it knew it had likely bashed her skull at the tip.
However, looking at the bat, it saw that there was a giant hole in it. When it lowered its head further, it saw its chest had been ruptured from one end to another, black blood spilling out of its body in copious amounts.
