Dark Magus Returns
Chapter 1616: The Special Energy

Gizin had already destroyed a massive portion of the Underside. His attack came down like a heavenly beam from the sky, ripping through the ceiling of the cavern and smashing directly into the ground. Everything around him had collapsed, stone, metal, homes, bridges, all reduced to rubble. The entire area had become a crater.

The light pouring down from above created a spotlight that illuminated everything.

It felt like the heavens themselves were watching.

And standing in that field of destruction were two figures, Raze and Gizin, facing each other at the center of the devastation.

’He’s confident… unbelievably confident,’ Raze thought, narrowing his eyes. ’And that power he used with his walking stick earlier… I’m sure of it.’

“What’s the matter?” Gizin asked, smiling wide, almost too wide. His voice was filled with amusement, as if none of this destruction meant anything to him. “Did you think you were the only one with a particular edge?”

He spun his walking stick once.

“I can see why you were so confident when you said you could defeat the Grand Magus,” Gizin continued. “Because when I discovered this power… it made me feel exactly the same.”

Gizin swung his walking stick in a horizontal arc. Energy erupted from the bottom of it, forming a beam so long and so bright that it resembled a giant sword slashing through the air.

Raze reacted instantly. He could have dodged. He could have moved to the side. But there was something he needed to confirm for himself.

So he stepped forward.

His foot stomped against the broken ground, sending dust scattering. Dark Qi surged through his body, mixing with his Dark Magic as he activated the Dark Edge Sword Arts. His sword became engulfed in pitch-black energy, crackling violently as he swung it downward to meet the incoming beam.

The moment the attacks collided,

Raze felt everything.

The pressure.

The force.

The overwhelming power that wasn’t just magic, it had something else.

The energy from Gizin’s attack swallowed the dark magic instantly, overpowering it as if it were nothing. Raze dug his heels into the crushed ground, but the force against him was too much. His feet slid back, grinding rock beneath them.

Then the beam consumed him completely and flung his body backward.

He skid across the broken rubble, rolling several times before coming to a stop.

But Raze forced his body up immediately.

He pushed himself off the ground, flicked debris away, and moved out of the beam’s path before the tail end of the attack carved further into the earth.

Now, with confirmation, Raze’s expression hardened.

’It’s true,’ he realized. ’His attacks aren’t just magic. They also have Qi mixed in, but it doesn’t feel like regular Qi.’

Gizin thrust the walking stick forward again.

“Confused?” Gizin asked, eyes glowing with excitement.

A fast, powerful beam of energy shot toward Raze like a cannon blast.

Raze didn’t hesitate. He fused his lightning magic and Qi together, his body flickering in a dark-purple blur as he used one of his special demonic techniques to slip to the side. The beam tore past him, blowing apart an entire section of the Underside behind him.

The explosion echoed through the cavern.

It reminded Raze of something, something he wished he didn’t remember.

The devastation Belil had shown him.

The power of the Divine Realm.

Raze gritted his teeth.

’Even if Gizin managed to combine Qi and magic… this strength is surpassing mine.’

Gizin didn’t give him a moment to breathe.

He thrust the walking stick forward again and again, each time releasing another violent beam of energy. Raze dodged, rolled, slid, and vanished between attacks, but every strike that missed him continued to travel, slamming into the Underside and causing massive explosions.

Entire homes vanished.

Walls collapsed.

Streets ruptured.

Even though Raze was avoiding the beams, the destruction around him continued to grow. Thankfully, the shelters where the people were hiding weren’t located in this direction. Otherwise, the casualties would have been far worse.

But still, this was the Underside.

People lived here.

People he had promised to protect.

How long can I keep dodging before everything is gone? Raze thought.

He tightened his grip on his sword.

’I possess one of the strongest Qi’s that exists in Pagna. Combined with the strongest warrior’s techniques, and the magic I’ve learned. Gizin is using Light Magic, so I understand why it overpowers my Dark Magic to some extent…’

He paused, another explosion behind him lighting up the area.

’But for it to overpower my Qi as well? That’s something else entirely.’

Another memory surfaced.

The Rylon Religion.

What they had been doing.

What they had been planning.

’If I remember correctly, the Rylon Religion was searching for hosts. Hosts to call beings from the Divine Realm down into our world. And before those from the Divine Realm entered a person’s body, they would steal energy, energy to be sent somewhere else.’

He clenched his jaw.

’The original body had sacrificed his entire family because of the Rylon Religion. And the energy… was going to Gizin.’

Everything began making sense.

The reason Gizin was so powerful.

The reason his magic felt unnatural.

The reason his Qi has a similar yet not familiar feeling to what Raze had felt before.

It wasn’t normal Qi.

It wasn’t cultivated Qi.

It was Qi stolen from the Divine Realm.

’He’s using Divine Qi,’ Raze realized, a cold shiver running down his spine. ’Divine Qi mixed with magic.’

The combination was terrifying.

More terrifying than anything Raze had fought before.

Gizin was laughing, enjoying every second of the destruction.

“You understand now, don’t you?” he shouted. “You understand why I said I am above every Grand Magus? Why I am the one meant to surpass them? This power, it belongs to them, to the Divine Realm!”

The beams grew stronger. Faster. Sharper.

Raze’s muscles tensed. This was his toughest fight yet. And deep inside, he knew, It was only going to get harder.
