Chaos' Heir -
Chapter 1590: Cooperation
Lord Blind Sword’s victory didn’t go unnoticed. Lord Envoy, Airrak, and their opponents sensed that outcome, which naturally changed the balance on that side of the distorted space.
As for Kodwa and his burning opponent, the two looked too locked in an endless series of deadly exchanges to mind anything but their battle.
The Royal Guard’s victory was good news for the regulated universe’s side. After all, the Kings in the area had become outnumbered, and that advantage wasn’t trivial when someone as strong as Lord Blind Sword wielded it.
However, Lord Envoy couldn’t help but consider a different, more problematic aspect of that development. Lord Blind Sword had indeed brought honor to the Thilku Empire, but his next move could complicate the whole situation.
That concern wasn’t out of distrust. It was precisely because Lord Envoy trusted his fellow Royal Guard that he considered that potential complication.
The issue was that the team didn’t have a real battle strategy. Everyone was relatively free to do as they wished as long as Lord Blue Shaman and the Emperor managed to go ahead unhindered.
Therefore, Lord Envoy believed that Lord Blind Sword might consider reuniting with the Emperor now that he had defeated his opponent. That was his duty in the end, and the potential cause of the problem Lord Envoy had foreseen.
If Lord Blind Sword decided to head in the direction of the Emperor, he would get lost. His perception was indeed the best among the Royal Guards, but Lord Envoy knew that the distorted space ahead wasn’t something mere senses could navigate.
So, to avoid the worst, Lord Envoy decided to free himself of his opponent as soon as possible. Still, that wasn’t exactly doable on his own.
Lord Envoy’s opponent was quite the tricky and slippery foe. The tall, lean, and long-haired King seemed to have a keen battle sense, which translated into his ability to spot the battle’s specific rhythm and react accordingly.
Many would have obviously had a hard time discerning the nature of such a strange ability, but Lord Envoy was an exception. He could literally alter space, allowing him to create perfect, unavoidable traps. Still, his opponent had always been able to dodge and counter them, leading to that conclusion.
The King’s counterattacks were also strange, just like the one currently forming next to Lord Envoy. A faint energy accumulated on his right side, seemingly creating the edges of a vast ellipse that released an ethereal tremor.
The tremor gave birth to a second, smaller, but still invisible ellipse right in front of the first, which also shook, repeating the process. In a matter of a fraction of a second, nine concentric ellipses took form, the last barely being fist-sized.
Then, those nine shapes shook together, brightening until they escaped their invisible status to release a beam that made Lord Envoy’s survival instincts scream in fear.
Of course, that was only an instinctive reaction, which Lord Envoy had already gotten used to. As for the attack, he faced it without fear, unleashing his mana to alter its trajectory.
That beam of faint energy was about to collide with Lord Envoy when it came to an abrupt stop. Still, its fabric kept flowing. It simply went elsewhere.
An explosion suddenly unfolded in the distance to Lord Envoy’s left. A vast chunk of the ground there blew upward, shattering into nothingness, and continuing to break until the beam to his immediate right finished unleashing its strange energy.
That consequence was nothing new, but Lord Envoy made a point of inspecting it thoroughly. He was in the air, relatively far away from the detonation point, but his senses were more than capable of studying what that strange attack had unleashed.
In a way, those attacks reminded Lord Envoy of Lord Blue Shaman’s ability. Yet, they didn’t seem to involve destruction or energy. They featured something more complicated but still primal, seemingly imitating what Major General Arngan could do.
"[I thought you were distracted]," An eerie whisper that Lord Envoy’s brain instinctively translated resounded through the area before a figure joined him in the air.
The long-haired, tall King calmly hovered through the sky, rising until he reached Lord Envoy’s eye level, but stopping several meters from him. His hands were joined on his waist, and a simple smile hung on his face, making his expression somewhat amiable and harmless.
"[It would be shameful to fall into distraction during a battle]," Lord Envoy said, his voice carrying calm emotions that made the King understand his message.
"[You have been studying me for a while, child of the mana]," The King announced, changing topic, his simple smile growing more confident. "[Did you figure me out yet]?"
"[You see and harness intent]," Lord Envoy responded. "[You can sense what the mind plans before it utters its commands]."
"[Correct]," The King nodded. "[My God granted me unmatched sensitivity. You have quite the steady drive, which is why my attacks had such straightforward effects]."
The King didn’t say it, but Lord Envoy could guess how far his ability stretched. The alien could probably achieve something similar to proper foresight if more exchanges were to unfold, turning the battle in his favor.
Obviously, Lord Envoy had a plan with a high success rate. His ability to manipulate space could also affect his thoughts, so he could gradually hide his true intentions from his opponent, eventually laying a trap he couldn’t avoid.
Yet, that strategy was time-consuming, and Lord Envoy also had a better idea. He could win on his own, too, so he didn’t find the thought too dishonorable, especially when it was in the service of a war issued by his Emperor.
The space around Lord Envoy twisted, adding some confusion to the King’s expression. He sensed the Thilku’s intentions, and following them brought his scarlet irises to the ground, where another battle was unfolding.
Airrak had just finished deflecting one of her opponent’s attacks and was now supporting her crooked back on her cane. She was also immersed in a time-consuming strategy, but the twisting space beside her ended up ruining her plans.
"Lady Airrak," Lord Envoy called as soon as his teleport next to the old woman ended. "I request we cooperate to expedite our respective victories."
