Brand New Life Online: Rise Of The Goddess Of Harvest -
Chapter 1772: Greedy Gardenia
—–
“Huh… well, that’s annoying,” Gardenia said, crossing her arms. “What if we refine it together then? That way we can keep it!”
“Gardenia, I know you’re desperate, but this isn’t a world that belongs to us. It belongs to the goddess who, for some reason, ended up inside my soul,” Elayne replied calmly. “Let’s talk to her first and negotiate some kind of agreement, okay?”
“Uuuggh, and where is she anyway?!” Gardenia demanded, looking terribly irritated. Elayne and Mark both knew the reason: Gardenia wanted everything for herself and for them, so she could enjoy this entire Realm and perhaps live here forever. She was simply too greedy and often refused to face harsh reality.
“Come on, we’ve been together for a while now, haven’t we?” Elayne said gently. “Don’t be grumpy! Let’s go. I think she’s… Ah, she might be right below us.”
“What? Where?!” Gardenia snapped.
“Hmm, right below us!” Elayne chuckled.
“What do you mean right below us—”
RUMBLE!
“Gyaaaaahh?!”
Gardenia screamed and panicked, clinging to Elayne and hiding behind her as the ground beneath them trembled and slowly rose into the sky. It revealed the humanoid figure of a beautiful giantess made of soil, stone, trees, small mountains, hills, rivers, and more.
“Whaaaa?! She’s enormous!” Gardenia shrieked.
“N-No way…!” Mark’s mouth fell open in shock.
“Hmmm? Huh? Who is it?” the giantess spoke, her voice so loud it sent shockwaves that nearly knocked over the tiny people climbing her enormous body. Apparently, she had been napping in this mostly empty grassland area, which had made it look like an elevated forest.
“S-Sorry for startling you!” Elayne called out. “It’s me! Lady Giantess!”
“Ooohh! E-Elayne! It has been some time. How are you?” the giantess asked in a very kind voice that somehow reminded Mark of Elayne herself.
“I’m fine. I tried the spell you gave me the other day,” Elayne explained. “I shared it with my friends and brought them along. This is Gardenia, a Great Spirit of Harvest and Nature, and this is Mark, my… um, my fiancé? We’re not married yet.”
“I see! Woooow! This is so amazing! New people!” the giantess exclaimed. “Mark and Gardenia! Okay! I can remember that!”
“N-Nice to meet you, giant lady…” Mark muttered, swallowing hard as he took in her beauty. “You look a lot like Elayne…”
“Haha, no way! Unlike her I am really big and made of dirt and trees!” the giantess giggled, completely unaware of her striking resemblance to Elayne.
“Ah, well, hi!” Gardenia said. “I’m sorry, but I don’t really recognize you. I wasn’t created back then after all. I’m only about ten thousand years old. I was made by a newer goddess named Lady Verdant. Are you an Ancient Goddess? Did Elayne inherit you in her soul through some kind of Legacy or System Inheritance?”
“Hmmm, I’m not sure what this ’System’ you’re talking about is…” the giantess said, rubbing her chin. Chunks of rock and small trees tumbled down, forcing the trio to dodge. “But it’s nice to know there are other Goddesses out there! And one called Lady Verdant! Wow! Wait, am I a goddess too? Haha, no way!”
“Ugh, she’s as irritating as you are, Elayne,” Gardenia muttered. “Anyway… would you be kind enough to let us settle here? We wanted to see if we could feed on the things here to nourish our souls. Maybe bring some materials back to the outside world.”
“A-Ah… Um… well…” The giantess suddenly realized Gardenia only wanted the treasures here. She looked a little sad that they might just be using her. “I… well… okay… but are you leaving right afterwards? Wouldn’t you stay a bit longer? I feel lonely…”
“I guess we could stay sometimes, but outside is really busy, so— Aaack!” Gardenia yelped as Elayne suddenly slapped her across the face. “E-Elayne?! Why did you do that?!”
“Gardenia, that’s enough!” Elayne said furiously. “Don’t take advantage of her kindness in such a scummy way! I didn’t come here to ask for materials or to exploit her! You always complain that people take advantage of my kindness, and now you’re acting exactly like the kind of people you hate!”
“E-Eh?” Gardenia looked stunned.
“Don’t you see you’re just abusing her goodwill?” Mark added. “If we’re only here for selfish gains, then any friendship we build would be meaningless.”
“Yeah…” Elayne sighed. “I’m so sorry about her, Lady Giantess. She’s just a greedy little fairy. But it’s fine—we don’t want anything from here! We’ll accept gifts, but we won’t harvest your beautiful world.”
“O-Oh! Elayne… thank you, but did you have to hit her? Poor thing…” The giantess gently patted Gardenia’s head. “Are you okay?”
“Ahh…” Gardenia looked a little depressed. “Yeah, I’m fine. I’m made of plants, so that barely hurt. It was just shocking… I guess you’re not wrong, Elayne. I don’t know what got into me. For a moment I was only thinking about stripping this place bare… ugh. I guess everything we’ve been through has made me a little crazy too. That’s not the kind of doctrine Lady Verdant taught me.”
“Right? So don’t do that,” Elayne said, nodding. “Just being here is already nourishing our souls, so why go that far? We have a beautiful world to explore, a place to rest from the Netherworld, and a new friend!”
“Hm!” The giantess nodded happily. “Heheh, I’m excited now! So many new friends! What should we do? Ah, we could go to the lake! It’s so bright and sparkly.”
“Sure, let’s go!” Elayne agreed.
“Yeah, let’s enjoy our time here before we wake up,” Mark said.
“I guess…” Gardenia still looked a little down.
As they walked across grasslands, forests, and mountains, they admired all kinds of beautiful vistas and enjoyed the realm to the fullest. Gardenia slowly cheered up, especially after Elayne apologized and promised never to hit her again, explaining it had been a one-time thing to snap her out of her overwhelming greed.
“This is the sparkly lake!” the giantess announced proudly.
“Lake?! This is practically an ocean!” Mark gasped, staring at the waves of a gigantic body of water within the floating continent. “H-How far does this go?!”
“Really far, it seems,” Elayne said with a giggle. “That’s nice, right? We should enjoy it while we can. Let’s take a dip together!”
“Yeah…!” Mark followed as Elayne grabbed his hand and pulled him along.
SPLASH!
They jumped into the pristine, transparent water filled with countless fish, beautiful corals, and vibrant algae. Swimming around made them feel truly blessed to experience such a wonderful dream.
Gardenia eventually joined them, splashing in and exploring the lake. Slowly, she started smiling and laughing again, finally relaxing and letting go of her earlier guilt.
The giantess stayed at the edge since she was far too large to swim properly, but she still enjoyed watching everyone play and seeing all the animals climbing over her body.
