Atticus’s Odyssey: Reincarnated Into A Playground -
Chapter 1399: Pillar
‘This was their plan all along.’
Regret was an emotion that would’ve engulfed Anorah if not for the emotionless state of Logoth.
Fire and stone blasted out into the quiet night as a column of destruction tore out from the middle of the Santums.
The once dark, quiet night had shifted, replaced by the roar of explosion and a brilliant scarlet that reflected in Anorah’s emotionless eyes.
The explosion hadn’t forcibly shifted Anorah’s position. She was God of Asterra, nothing could move her.
Instead, her mind flickered through an incalculable number of thoughts as she tried to make sense of this situation.
“Saint!”
One struggled by her side, along with the other Knights of Light. Though she had wrapped the whole group in a dome of her will, the heavy force that came from the pillar piercing the night sky somehow found its way to affect them.
‘It affects will.’
It took her less than a nanosecond to determine that. One part was because she also felt the heaviness, and the other was due to the fact that it affected them in the first place. Only Will could affect Will.
‘I have to create distance.’
With a thought, the group vanished from the scene, appearing a distance away from the pillar of light. It was only now that she could fully see the pillar in its magnitude.
From the underground prison, the light pierced up like a divine lance, spreading across the skies of Asterra. The once dark skies began to shift into a golden hue.
‘Its effects… it’s spreading.’
Only the emotionless state of Logoth kept Anorah’s composure in place. She could feel it, the effects of the pillar had begun to spread across all of Asterra.
Anorah was at a loss. Hundreds of thoughts, hundreds of possibilities, but nothing could accurately guess what was happening.
‘A new technology.’ Her mind suddenly recalled the tattoos she’d seen etched onto the traitors earlier. It was the only explanation.
“Saint!”
A sudden grip snapped Anorah out of her trance. She turned to see One staring at her with panic.
“Enough thinking!” One bellowed, “we need to act now!”
Her eyes blazed an intense golden. One was right. She had been so lost in her trance, in trying to figure out what was happening that she almost forgot what was important.
Erasing the threat.
Anorah’s lips curved into a thin line. She raised her voice, and the words rolled out:
“Heed my call and ignite. Let glow be born!”
At once, blinding flares ignited across her body. One mark flared on her arm, another along her leg, then her chest, then her brow.
In the next moment, they connected, weaving together until a blazing cloak of light erupted, surrounding her like glowing armor.
The shockwave hurled One and the other Knights of Light backwards, their bodies shuddering in the gale.
The intensity of her brilliance dwarfed even the holy pillar’s radiance.
High above, regaining his balance, One’s gaze locked onto the Saint. His eyes trembled as he whispered hoarsely,
“The Myridian Lineage…”
In Asterra, even the highest knights could only ever bear one light mark in their lifetime. That was the immutable law.
Only one bloodline was free from this limitation, the Myridian Lineage, the sovereign dynasty said to be blessed by the universe itself.
Each of its scions could bear many marks, bending the laws of light to their will. They had ruled Asterra with absolute authority, their names carved as legends.
And now, before his very eyes, One beheld the last of the Myridians.
The Multi Marked Saint.
Anorah raised her hand, and the world itself obeyed.
The silver moon above dissolved as if erased, replaced by a blazing sun that bled across the heavens.
Its golden rays cascaded over Asterra, flooding every shadow, every valley, every soul.
The rays bent towards her, converging in countless streams, until a storm of divine brilliance coiled around her arm.
She stretched her hand forward, the torrent gathering, compressing into a single colossal beam.
With a cry that shook heaven and earth, the beam was unleashed.
The impact blasted outward, but with a single thought from Anorah, a dome of light blossomed, swallowing the area and protecting the attack from wreaking havoc.
‘Did it work?’
One, along with the remaining Knights of Light, had this one singular thought. But as a god, Anorah already knew the answer.
‘Not a scratch.’
The pillar of light remained unfazed under her attack. The beam had dispersed around it like it was nothing.
She entered into a trance once more. The pillar affected will, which meant attacking with her will was pointless. And now, it would seem that it also affected light.
‘It was designed specifically for Asterra… for me…’
It was only now that she confirmed her assumption. Just like at the alleyway, they had created a technology that made her will and glow obsolete.
‘I can’t affect it.’ She realized, then her eyes flashed as a certain power entered her mind. ‘With normal means…’
The power of Solvath. Of a primordial star. Pillar or not, technology or not, there should never be anything greater.
Despite her emotionless state, Anorah somehow still felt the surge of emotions. She hated using this power as it wasn’t hers.
‘But there’s no choice.’
Anorah let out a deep breath, then shut her eyes. The Big Bang flared behind her lids, followed by an intense surge of emotions. But Logoth held it back, wrapping her in unyielding calm.
When she opened them again, her irises burst into a burning violet flame. The golden cloak around her shuddered, then flashed to purple, illuminating the golden world in a color so alien that even the sun seemed to recoil.
One and the other Knights of Light froze. A suffocating presence pressed down on them, heavier than any force they had ever known. Their wide eyes were fixed on Anorah, but what they felt was awe.
She raised her hand, and the purple light bent. Another beam began to gather around her palm, gusts tearing across the land as the energy swelled.
